2020 has done a great job of outdoing itself each an every day. First we lost Kobe, RIP. Then there was is still is COVID-19, whew. Can we catch a break??
Doesn’t look like it but outside of all the craziness of 2020 we have to keep our sanity! If you are an LA resident or plan on traveling here during COVID-19 even though we are still technically on a “stay at home order” there are are still a few things that you can do to enjoy yourself.
Beach Please?! The beach is always free and even now its wide open. Get a few friends, bring some snacks and drinks and you can post up at the beach for a few hours if not all day. The best part about the beach is that most have restaurants surrounding the beaches and they are also wide open. My favorite beach of all the beaches is Hermosa Beach. It is super quiet (pre-covid) and clean.
Rent a Bike or Buy Skates: Since COVID began I have seen an influx of people riding bikes and skating around LA. It has definitely been satisfying to watch but it’s keeping people active and out the house. Like many at the beginning of quarantine, I found a ton of comfort in drinking and eating. I wasn’t able to go to the gym because of closures and I felt like I was totally out of shape.
LA Zoo: Though I’ve never been to the LA Zoo yet, they announced this week that the zoo is open for business. If you’re into animals it’s definitely a way to get out of the house!
Take a HIKE: Majority of the LA parks and hiking trails are open now including the most popular Runyon Canyon. I still haven’t been to Runyon personally but my advice is to get there early to beat the crowd and the heat!
Shop til you drop!: One of the biggest things that I was concerned about when it came to closures was the mall. I love the mall it’s literally my second home. The best thing about LA is that there are a ton of outdoor malls. Only outdoor malls are allowed to be open at this time. So if you’re in town check out The Grove, Westfield Century City and Americana at Brand to name a few!
Drive-In Movie: Being that all movie theaters are closed still, it’s a relief that we have drive-in theaters. This is on my list to do before the summer is out. Look up these drive-in theaters to see what movies are playing! There is the Mission Tiki Drive-in & Van Buren Drive-in.
Outdoor Restaurants: LA county has permitted for restaurants to operate if you have outdoor seating. This is perfect for those who have cabin fever and are sick of cooking or ordering in. Some of my favorite outdoor/rooftop restaurants are: Pilot, The Waffle & Castaway Just to name a few. You can check out my other LA Brunch guide for more of my faves: Top 5 Brunch Spots in LA
