It’s been two weeks since I returned from a quick weekend trip to New Oleans and I really enjoyed myself. I was very excited mostly for the food so this will serve as a Mini guide to Nola!
My friends and I arrived on a Thursday afternoon and after landing in NOLA. We checked into the beautiful Marriot Renaissance Marquette. I stayed in New Orleans for 3 days which I thought was enough time to dig into the culture a little bit before heading home. I really loved the vibe that I got while there. From the architecture to the accents, I felt super submersed in a gem right on American soil.
Where to EAT:
I was very excited about trying all the staple restaurants known in NOLA so I made a Instagram post to ask for suggestions and boy did you guy deliver. Well over 200 comments on places to try while in New Orleans means Ill have enough places to try for 5+ trips.
Breakfast-
The Ruby Slipper was the breakfast spot that we checked out and it was delicious especially the mimosas, I’m always here for a mimosa. The wait time was bout 30 mins which wasn’t too bad but it was totally worth it.
Cafe Du Monde had a line wrapped around it when we went and I was just to hungry to wait in line with friends so I grabbed brunch alone at a place across the street called Monty’s On The Square it was yummy! Although my friend got me Beignets to go I didn’t even have a chance to try them but Ill be going back to NOLA again.
Dinner/Lunch-
We Dat Chicken was our first pit stop for food on this trip. The service was quick, good and the wings were yummy! One thing that I hate I didn’t try while there was the kool-aid. Quick quality food with fast food prices!
We did sit down to eat at Pat O’Brien’s for food and the well known Hurricane drink but I honestly wasn’t impressed. The food was bland and the drink was watered down in my opinion.
Our second night in Nola we ate at Neyow’s, I’ll start off by saying I wasn’t impressed by the food. I don’t know if its because we didn’t get seated until after 10 pm and they closed at 11. But it just wasn’t much to talk about.
Dinner at MorrowsLA was great, the drinks were pretty good and the atmosphere was chill. The wait was about 45 mins to an hour. They ran out Korean BBQ ribs but I settled for the fried chicken and Mac and cheese.
We did eat at some other restaurants on Bourbon Street but they really weren’t worth mentioning.
If it’s your first time visiting NOLA it’s only right that you grab a hand grenade from Tropic Isle (don’t drink more than two unless you want to be on your ass) You of course can’t go wrong with grabbing shots and drinks from Fat Tuesday’s that’s definitely a staple. I would suggest just buying a bottle and making personal drinks to save money.
Things to Do:
A swamp tour was a must, we booked a cheap tour through our hotel with transportation for $52 each. A 30 min trip to the swamp and about an hour tour on the actual swamp. We met Sugar the albino alligator, she is so pretty. Along with all the other gators that graced us with their presence during the tour. Such a cool tour, bring cash if you want to buy snacks at the gift shop.
On my last day in town we had it on our to-do list to check out the local Voodoo Museum. We were lucky enough to come in at a time that a Voodoo priest was there to give us knowledge and the history of Voodoo which was pretty cool.
Overall I had a great time in New Orleans. I think I will definitely need to make a second and third trip there to get the full experience. I hope this mini guide helps you for your next trip to New Orleans.
