I’m coming up on my first year living in LA and I couldn’t be happier. It has been a long, challenging but rewarding journey that I am so thankful for. With that being said, on my one year journey there’s been a lot of “tourist”stuff I’ve done but there’s also been some places I’ve come across just from doing exploring. This post is here to serve those who plan on visiting LA and need suggestions on where to eat, go and suggestions on things to do.
Where To Visit:
Griffith Observatory– is one of the most visited landmarks in Southern California. This spot is perfect if you want to see a breathtaking view of the Los Angeles skyline. In my opinion it’s better to go at night but not too late. Be prepared to park a little far, wear comfortable shoes.
Hollywood Walk of Fame– Hollywood Blvd definitely has a urine stench but it’s cool to see the Walk of Fame and walk up and down the strip to people watch. It’s a quick attraction, shouldn’t take long to do. If you want to see more, you could always check out a TMZ Tour or Celebrity home tours. I haven’t personally done one but a very good option if you want to see the Hollywood sign and more.
The Broad– The Broad is a contemporary art museum in Downtown LA. Art home for two Yayoi Kusama’s infinity mirror rooms, pieces from Jeff Koon and Basquiat. Entry into The Broad is free, but you may have to stand in the standby line if all the tickets are allocated for that day or time slot. Tons of photo op moments. Free Fun!
The Beach– Before I moved to LA I was always so fascinated with the beaches because there aren’t any close to Charlotte, other than Myrtle Beach. Now that I live within arms length of multiple beaches I couldn’t be happier. My top two favorite beaches are Manhattan and Malibu, because its very quiet and clean. But for tourist sake I would say visit Santa Monica and Venice Beach. More people and more of a tourist attraction than the other beaches. Plan to Uber there unless you want to drive around looking for a parking spot.
Where to Eat:
Brunch
The Waffle– Is located in Hollywood and has THE best breakfast/brunch food ever! The pancakes are delicious and Mimosas are freaking huge! The best thing on the menu is… The Buffalo Chicken Hash browns. Period.
Overland Cafe– This breakfast/brunch spot is located close to Culver City and Baldwin Hills area. All I can say is Bottomless Champagne. Food is great and cheap! Worth the drive if you are staying in Los Angeles.
The Griddle– Another breakfast/Brunch spot located in Hollywood with DE-LIC-IOUS food and great drinks. Another reasonable option. Must try!
Dinner
Bossa Nova– One of the best Italian restaurants I’ve ever eaten at. Food is nice and fresh. Garlic bread and the chicken lasagna was to die for. Bossa Nova is located in Hollywood.
Dog Haus– Sausage & hot dog spot that I could practically eat at everyday. I eat there at least once a week. My go-to item off the menu is the “Thai Fighter”. The fries are damn delicious too. There are a few locations around LA, including Universal City and NoHo.
Salsa & Beer– California is known for its Mexican food. This restaurant is located in NoHo and is one of the busiest spot ever. As soon as they open up at 11am the line is wrapped around the building. If you feel like the long wait, dine in. I ONLY call my order in and pick it up. The BEST item on the menu is the “California Burrito”. It has chicken, shrimp and steak inside the burrito. Check it out you won’t be disappointed.
Where to Shop:
Santee Alley– This is my go-to spot for LOW prices for sunglasses and “wholesale” style clothing that you see most boutiques selling. Go early, shortly after 8 am and wear comfy shoes you can walk the alley for hours. There’s so much to see.
All the malls in SoCal are pretty legit and I frequent them all. If you have the time during the trip definitely check a few out. The selection is pretty legit. I never have an issue finding things for clients or for myself.
This is my round up of Things to Do in Los Angeles, keep these places in mind when planning your next trip to the west coast.
