What’s life without a foundation? I have learned over the years that in order to truly brand yourself you have to build a solid foundation. A foundation of supportive people around you who truly believe in you and you also have to gain knowledge daily if possible.
It took me a while to figure out exactly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life each and every day. Like what was my calling? Fashion of course but how would I make it happen?
The biggest thing to remember when you figure out what it is that you want to do in life, its to start. Don’t wait for everything to line up perfectly, don’t wait for that moment you’ll meet the right person to present an opportunity to you or you’ll be waiting forever. JUST START NOW!
I’m sure you all have seen that quote/meme online that says “That Podcast? Launch it. That blog? Start it. That Book? Write it. That idea? Flesh it out. That app? Develop it. That Gift? Put it to use. The best advice that I could give anyone and to myself is to just start. If you are committed things will fall into place as you go along the way. Trust me.
A wise person once told me that if you don’t use it you’ll lose it and I refuse to lose the gifts God gave to me because I’m afraid of what will happen. I have to take that same fear and use it as energy to make things happen. There’s so much free knowledge around us. Public libraries, the World Wide Web, free webinars etc. There’s no excuse not to start. If you happen to not have the support system you’d like at the moment link up with other creatives who are doing similar things. I promise you that if they are willing to network they are willing to uplift those who may be having the same struggles as you. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and meet new people.
I say that to say my new friend and photographer of the photos in this post and my last are the product of me stepping out of my comfort zone and looking for photographers in my new home state. I was so overwhelmed by this huge move it didn’t hit me that I would need to find a photographer that I was comfortable shooting with and I found that in Noel (@icaptureclouds). We have only shot once but it was a great experience and her photos are crisp and clean.
